   This is a Google Tech Talk by Vinod Khosla on the subject of Ethanol, recorded at the Googleplex in Mountain View, California. Mr. Khosla believes that ethanol offers the potential to significantly reduce our oil consumption in five years with little governmental cost and little cost to consumers.

   There is no question that ethanol is the fuel of the future, although there seems to be some debate as to which feedstocks should be used to make ethanol. Its my sincere hope that domestic fuel production causes Exxon Mobile some financial trouble in the near future. Although this company made over 39B in profits last year they have invested NOTHING in biofuel. In fact they spend millions of dollars each year lobbying the American Government to delay legislation that would force gas stations to sell ethanol blends.    I agree that ethanol is the fuel of the future, but there is a lot of work to be done to achieve that in my opinion.

   First, we must find a better source of feedstock than corn – i.e. develop commercial cellulosic ethanol technology. Also, we must improve water usage efficiency so it takes less water to make one gallon of fuel.

   Over time though I think that the industry will make great strides in these areas.

   bet they would not mind if the plant were proposed in iowa, or south dakota.
